Belstone pictures research

Belstones website which keep hold of their products and what's next - https://www.belstonepictures.com/

As the budget was small there was not a lot to be spent on marketing. There was a trailer made and release on different YouTube channels such as "Movieclips India" which has got 49.918 views for the trailer and 2,279,901 views on New Trailer Buzz. Although the trailer was released on November 16th 2016, so past the UK release date and 10 days before the US release dates. This would mean that the trailer didn't release for their UK target audience and maybe why more of that an Americas audience who the film was not made for saw the film and could be a reason why the overall reviews where bad.

The film is on Netflix, Amazon prime and on smaller streaming platforms. This is where a lot of the money would of been made.

There was only one trailer made and this was released on different youtube channels. On one channel 'Bulldog Film Distributions'.

Their was a trailer was released in 2020 on the YouTube channel '1091 Pictures'  with over 18,000 views

There has been no trailer made yet but all over YouTube are the reviews on the film.

No Time To Die and Black Window

No Time To Die and Black Widow both high concept, tentpole movies that their production company strongly invested in epsically the marketing to ensure a large revence.

 No Time To Die

A list cast -Daniel Craig who starred in 4 other James Bond film; Casino Royal, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre.

No Time To Die was Daniel Craig last James Bond Film and he took a base salary of $25 million. Though this doesn’t account for the amount of money he will get in bonuses. The movie made reportedly $56 million on its box office opening weekend in UK. And global since October 12th it’s made $300million globally.

The production budget for the film was $250 million and the marketing was $100 million. Though with all the months of the release being pushed back due to pandemic the film needs to gross roughly $800 million.

With the amount of money spend on marketing, there were multiple trailers. Trailers really helped keep interested. The first trailer was released in December 4th 2019, which was for the original release date.
More trailers were released around September 2020 for the release of November 2020. The final international trailer was released in 31 August 2021. Just under a month before the UK release date.
As well as having trailers for marketing, there is a '007' Instagram and Youtube page. Though the numbers of followers are low on both for how big the franchise is (1.8 million Instagram and around 600K on youtube.) On average a video on the '007' Instagram gets roughly 130k views but with celebrities who were part of the film such as Ben Whishaw and Rami Malek on the carpet of the premier got 300K to 400k views. As well a post of Billie singing 'No Time To Die' got nearly 600K. Having the celebrities being themselves raised views and helped heighten interest.

Also free marketing was done by the Virtual marketing. As the audience knows this is Daniel Craigs last James Bond film,  people went into a frenzy of who is going to be the next 'Bond'. There is a possibility it will be a women or POC, which older fans who are used to Bond being predictable and like that about the films and franchise. This causes arguments which cause more talk about the film. This is overall a good thing has more people hear about the film and more chances of watching it so they can weight in there opinions.

The Bond movie was a little different to normal, there was human interested had with Bond’s daughter which made the film have a lot more emotions compare to the normal Bond of just fighting scene after fighting scene. We see how Bond turns out the way he in the present day due the the love interest of Madeleine Swan. We see how he is cold and broken and makes us feel more sympathetic to a killer.

Black Widow

A list cast -Scarlet Johansson has been in 9 other Avengers films but normally playing a supporting role or sharing the lead. Her first film with Marvel was ‘Iron Man 2’

Johansson base salary for the film was $20 million but she publicly let know her frustration because of the film being released on Disney plus after only two days of being in cinemas after not mentioning this in a contract. She’s placed a lawsuit on the studio and then a agreement was made she would be given $50million more.

The production budget was approximately $200 millions. Marketing budget was somewhere in the nine digits because of Covid pushing the release date back which made the overall P&A and marketing cost around $150 million. The original release date was the 1st of May 2020. Then it was moved to the 6th of November 2020. Then pushed back again to 7th July 2021 and became available on Disney plus on the 9th July with an additional fee

Black Widow was the highest grossing film of 2021with the opening weekend box office being $80 million and $60 million in steaming. Currently the second highest grossing film with around $183 million.

There was a teaser trailer released on the 3rd of December 2019, then the first trailer for Black Widow was released on the 14th of January 2020. This trailer was for the original release date of May 1st. It was uploaded to the Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel which only has 16K subcribers but the trailer got nearly 4 million views.

They was another trailer released on the 9th of March 2020 at this point it was still hoped to be watch on the 1st of May. It was delayed 3 times. The last trailer was released on the 3 April 2021 with 20 million views.
The YouTube Channel would post interview videos with the cast or asking them random lighthearted questions or the origin of Black widow. This helped keep fans interested in the film as it was a reminder the film will come out at some point and kept their focus engage to when Black Widow actually come out. The Marvel fanbase also love the cast, by having the interview fans get to see what the cast personality are actually like. This leads them on to make edits of the cast members on TikTok and then expand the audience and reaching a bigger demographic which would make people more interested in seeing it
This video is a compilation of fans TikToks of Florence Plug who plays Black Widow's younger sister 'Yelena'. This spreads to a wider audience.
Black Widow like No Time To Die comes from franchise of a lot of action a little human interest. But Black Widow had a descend amount of human interest as it displayed through the story of the sisters relationship and their upbringing.

As Products they both are made from the big production companies and take a place in the action blockbuster spot. They both have a list celebrities who have large fanbases. The trailers and release date pushback were almost at the same time and the releases were only were two months apart. And both are healthy grossing.

Opening title sequences- Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 2 and Stranger than Fiction

Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 2

The Groot is the centre of the camera composition and there is no change in shot. The camera track Groot the whole time. The shot is an extra long shot duration, and there is a lot of editing on the CGI of characters and explosion. The soundtrack is mainly diegetic flows through out the sequence. As the sequence takes place we see action of the characters in the background fighting and explosions as the soundtrack is contrapuntal with an upbeat song. There is an pause in the editing were Groot is frozen and the background and the title comes onto the screen as the camera start pan to the side of Groot. The colours in the scene are very bright and also contances with the violence of the scene. The whole tone of the piece is light hearted and meant to be funny.

Stranger than Fiction

The editing makes it seem like we are zoom in from outside the world into this man's bedroom. The voiceover starts as we see the man which by the end of the sequence there is a change in the voiceover as it become diegetic to the man as he trys to talk to it. We get a split screen to when the man is brushing his teeth and numbers and line on the screen as it shows the amount of times he is doing something. He has this the whole sequence of the editing of lines and diagrams to his daily routine which adds to the body language of the character which is very extract and everything is done with purpose. The camera ranges from close ups, to midshots and wideshots. The camera has a lot of close ups to the watch. And when the man is running and its a close up to the watch the editing slows the speed and which he is running at. The soundtrack is the background has a steady pace to it and doesn't change to symbolises the routine doesn't change although at the end of the day when the voiceover talks about how lonely he is the music slows to create a sad mood.
